Child Protection Team
The Child Protection Team is the intervention program of The Children’s Advocacy Center. Referrals are received from the Department of Children & Families and law enforcement of children who are suspected of being abused, either physically, emotionally or sexually. Child Protection Team case coordinators assist in the investigation and in providing needed services to the family.

Some of the services offered include:
Forensic interviewing: Child Protection Team staff have been trained to provide videotaped forensic interviews of child victims of sexual abuse. This lessens the trauma and reduces the number of times the child must be interviewed.

Medical Exams: These are conducted by an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner or a Board-Certified Pediatrician. Both are trained to detect sexual or physical abuse through this examination process.

Expert Testimony: The Team is often called to criminal and dependency court to assist the State Attorney’s office in prosecution of the offender or in assuring a child is placed in a safe environment away from the abuser.

Case Coordination & Referrals: The Child Protection Team assures that all parties connected to the investigation are sharing information and that referrals are given to children and their families for counseling and any other needed services.

Referrals are made to the Child Protection Team through the Department of Children and Families, law enforcement or the State Attorney’s office. The Team is primarily funded through the Department of Health, Children’s Medical Services. Additional funding is received from United Way, Volusia Children’s Services Council, Flagler County Human Services, grants and donations.

Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, with 24-hour on-call service provided.
