WHO WE ARE

What We Do
Once a child is brought to the Children’s Advocacy Center, he or she is interviewed in a very safe, comforting atmosphere by a trained staff member. These professionals take special care to help children talk about the abuse without feelings of embarrassment or shame. We may videotape the interview behind a two-way mirror in order to have a permanent account in case legal intervention is necessary.

Depending on the type of abuse that is uncovered during the interview process, an in-depth physical examination of the victim may be necessary. The examination is performed by CAC’s Medical Director, a licensed pediatrician who specializes in working with abused and neglected children. The exam is a critical component because it helps determine if further medical/psychological care is necessary and it gathers critical evidence for the prosecution.

The Children’s Advocacy Center does not charge for interviews, medical assessments or many of the other services we provide.  We are funded by donations and grants for which we apply annually, special fund raising events and the kindness and generosity of individuals, foundations, the business community, and others making donations and planned gifts.  No one is ever turned away for an inability to pay for services.
